Happy Halloween! We have lots of candy. I hope we get lots of kids! I found my witch hat while unpacking, so I guess that is what I will dress up as. A witch in jeans, though. And no scary makeup this year.

So, we've made some decisions on the house. Below is a picture of what the outside will look like. Our plans came back with a bland elevation design, and we felt the house needed a little more curb appeal. As a result of driving around Sunday, we found something we really liked. We haven't picked brick or siding color yet, so it's not going to look exactly like this. Also, we are doing side lights on either side of the door, without a transom over the top. And, we are putting a vent in the peak of the two-stall garage. But, this is the basic design.

Working on house stuff today. Over the weekend we reviewed the plans for our house, and we have some changes. Some things the builder missed; some things we just didn't understand the first time around. Seeing the actual plans and elevations got us out and in the car to look at similar homes. We are meeting with the realtor today to review the changes. I think our changes are pretty minor, but with Friday being the 31st, it doesn't look like the hole will be dug this month. I feel confident that we will be all squared away in the next few weeks, though.

Today there is a wind advisory. It's so weird to have a Severe Weather Alert with not a cloud in the sky. However, it does feel like the shutters could blow off the house.

We went to our first Husker game yesterday. They beat Iowa State 28 to 0. We took lots of pictures, which I hope to have posted soon. (I know I keep saying that, but I really mean it!) Thanks to the Masts for the tickets.

Thanks Mom and Dad for the Halloween treats. We went La Paz for dinner and had a wonderful time.

At first I wasn't too happy about living behind a car dealership. Even if it was only a rental for seven months. But every evening while cooking dinner, I look out the window and see this sky, and I don't mind so much.

And people said I wouldn't get much use out of my convertible in Nebraska. Yesterday I drove all over town with the top down, running errands and looking at the colorful leaves (there are more trees north of town than where we live). And may I take a moment to gloat? The humidity was 30%. Today is definitely a nice day for a trip to the vineyard.

95 Degrees In Nebraska In The Middle Of October?
Sat Oct 18 2003 21:38:38 ET

A high of 95 in Nebraska in the middle of October?

That's what the National Weather Service is predicting for Lexington on Sunday. Record highs in the mid-80s to 90 prevailed over much of Nebraska on Saturday as people enjoyed what could be the last really hot weekend of the year.

The mercury hit 90 at Columbus, Holdrege, Kearney, McCook and York. It hit 89 at Grand Island and Hastings, setting records for the date in those cities.

The weather service predicted highs in the 80s and mid-90s on Sunday, but next weekend probably will be cooler, with temperatures in the lower 60s and upper 50s, said Dennis Phillips, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in North Platte.

By November, temperatures in Nebraska are generally in the 30s, 40s and 50s, according to information from the weather service.

Today is game day in Lincoln. Huskers vs. Texas A&M. Best Buy opens early so you can get your shopping done before the game. If you have to run errands (like I do) you can still catch the play-by-play at the grocery store or outside at Southpointe Pavilions. Aside from everyone in town wearing red, and seeing the same flag on almost every house, it's weird to listen to football while buying your groceries. They tune into the pre- and post-game shows, too.

So, two down and one to go. Indian restaurants, that is. T had previously been to the Oven, which I would still like to try, but he was not that impressed, so we decided to go to the Taj Mahal last night. I'd give it maybe two stars. The breads were too big—the size of a meat platter. The roti and pratha were really wheaty, and all came covered in butter. The Lamb Vindaloo was heavy on the tomato paste, so much that you really couldn't enjoy the spices. T liked the Murgh Goa, but I thought the sauce was similar to cream of mushroom soup. That said, the Aloo Chat was good, although we missed the chick peas and crispy things. And the meat was tender enough to cut with a piece of bread. We also tried Flying Horse lager, which we found very tasty.

Update on the hole: We have a tree! That was a nice surprise. There are people up the (Pleasantville) street who are having their entire front yard dug up. I'm not sure why, but we were wondering if something was amok in the neighborhood. But all is well.

Today we signed up for a BMW car event with the Missouri Valley Chapter (Nebraska doesn't have it's own chapter.) It's a wine tasting at James Arthur Vineyards in Raymond. This club is supposed to be more social and less "let's get together and tinker with our cars." I am all for that!

And last, but not least, we have a tenant! The management company called yesterday for our approval of the applicant. It will be nice not to worry about a mortgage and rent. Yay!

10.15.03
Another bright, sunny day. Maybe it seems so bright here because there so few trees and no tall buildings. Sometimes the sun hurts my eyes even with sunglasses! The evenings are bright, too. If you are driving west at sunset, it's really hard to see.

There are some men digging in my front yard today. I had a feeling it was coming. Over the past few weeks there have been little flags and spray-painted lines showing up for water, gas and electric lines. I'm not sure what they are doing, and since it's not my property, I don't really care. But it's weird having workmen talking and walking around the house. I'm used to it being very quiet during the day.

It's a bright, sunny day. Today I am working on some freelance jobs. And I also managed to get all of the pictures from our camera onto my computer! I've been having problems with "Import All" not importing everything. I found another application on my computer that will "Import Some" and I went through shot by shot to select the ones that didn't get copied over before. Hopefully I can have them posted in the next few days.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Congratulations Michael and Ferrari!

So, it's finally raining here. I do love the bright, sunny warm days, but Lincoln is still in a drought, and really needs the rain. Not a great day to pick for a road trip, but today we are heading up to Omaha. We have a gift certificate that we thought was for mysimon.com, which actually is for Simon malls. We found it this week while we were unpacking. It's ironic, because in Indiana our hotel was attached to a Simon mall. And now we have to drive 50 minutes to use it. It's weird how that seems far to me now. It's hard to believe I used to spend 1 hour 15 minutes getting to work every morning.

While we are up there, we might check out Nebraska Furniture Mart, which apparently is gigantic. It's a huge furniture store, plus appliances and computers—the size of a street block. When the Masts last went, they were there all day and still didn't see it all. A lot of builders have contracts there, and send clients there to buy lighting, fixtures, appliances, etc. so clients can use their "builder's discount."

We'll also be watching the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend. It's going to be a good race. Both the Driver and Construction Championships are up for grabs. Of course, if we want to watch it live we have to stay up until midnight. We'll see if we can make that late. We tried for qualifying, but had to put a tape in. Go Michael!

10.07.03
I've been a little under the weather since we came back from the race. (Hmm... might have something to do with sitting in the stands in the cold rain!) I'll be posting pics and an update soon.

Today is Tarun's birthday. He wants to celebrate by watching his favorite reality TV show: The California Recall. Send him some birthday wishes at tkundhi[at]inebraska[dot]com.

Weather update: it's sunny and high 80s this week. Am I really in Nebraska?
